♛SUMMARY♛
One day, a perfectly normal and ordinary girl walked home from school to find that she had became an orphan, in a blink of her eye. She was forced to live in the house of an aunt who loathed her, since her parents were gone.

But what truly made her special was that she had found the bridge between the world she had always lived in and a secret, hidden world. A notebook was given to her on her 15th birthday by her mom, who said, "This notebook will change your life forever." And it did, it was the bridge that linked the two worlds.

Two worlds, one girl.

♛PROLOGUE♛
Mother used to always tell me that one's life can change in a blink of their eye.
The thing is, I never fully believed her as my life had always remained void of huge changes of any sort. Until one beautiful snowy day, when my whole life was changed forever. That one day brought about a change so great that it ended up bringing a million more changes in my life, but as any other changes, these changes have impacted my life and is the sole reason of why I am the way that I am today. Looking back at it now, I still remember that one day and the myriads of events that happened afterwards so vividly that you would assume it happened just yesterday...
Looking around me, I saw sparkling snowflakes dancing around in the cold air like ballerinas. The beauty became so overwhelming, that I heard a gasp of awe escape me. I had just finished my last exam of the year and was finally outside with my two friends-Kayla and Shay. Moments ago, we had walked out of our examination classroom and were now on our way to our lockers. Once there, we came to a quick realization that winter coats were difficult to find on the undersized metal school coat rack. Stepping outside, I felt a sense of relief as snow fell all around me. Whoever thought of forcing students to stay inside a school for ninety minutes without any talking breaks was mental. Yes, I hated exams with a passion, but I mean, who liked them anyway?
I just hope that for your sake you didn't say 'I do' otherwise you are in great danger from me.
"Can you guys taste the freedom in the air? We're finally free to do whatever we want forever-Okay, maybe for only a month, but still." I exclaimed, feeling as if a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I bent down and randomly drew a smiley face in the white snow; I was happy to finally be free from the tedious first semester of school and looked forward to the month of freedom before me.
Kayla, being the quiet 'thinker' in our group, simply curved her lips into a huge contagious smile and nodded. Not being able to help myself, I mimicked her smile with my own. Shay, the most upbeat person, gave a loud squeal of joy before doing a super random "happy dance" that attracted the attention of several people around the school entrance, who took out their phones and started to record her.
Kayla and I quickly grabbed both of her arms and dragged her down to the street, which contained fewer people. Shay tended to do things like this often so we were pretty used to it, but knew that we were doing our job as friends and saving her, again, from embrassements. It also didn't help that she was, what I would like to call, an attention-seeker.
"So, Mia, what are you going to do once you get home today? I'm going to watch movies all day and finally get to start chillaxing... You know, that word should officially go to a dictionary, don't you agree?" asked Shay, while tying her curly blond hair into a topknot, grinning from ear to ear. She was obviously unaware of the scene she had just caused earlier and I doubt she would ever be aware of all the embarrassing situations she gets herself into.
"Well, I'm going to make a snowman with my mom because it's our tradition every year. Then I'm going to play with Oreo the Cat and bake cookies with my mom while waiting for my dad to come home, so that we can surprise him with cookies since he loves them. Seriously though, he could probably eat cookies all day if he wanted to. Realistically though, who doesn't like cookies? Raise your hand if you don't like cookies, but be warned-I'm arresting any cookie-haters and putting them into jail." Giving a cheeky smile, I apologized, "Oops; got a little passionate over there... And you, Kayla?"
Kayla turned to me, "Well, I have that really good book I want to finish," she trailed off, probably thinking about the book, "I'm probably going to watch some movies with my little brother after and just relax." I felt my lips turn upwards into a smile. Although Kayla is the 'quiet' one, she was still a great friend and was one of the reasons why our trio was so awesome. The other two reasons being moi (that's me in French) and Shay.
Looking around me, I felt nothing, but joy in my heart. The snow, that has now become heavier, fell in great flurries, covering over the footprints on the ground. Ever since I could remember, I've always had a love for winter not only from its sheer beauty, but also because I had lived around this environment all of my life. The icebox, which went by the name of Michigan, had become a permanent part of my life and I planned to live here until I grew grey. I honestly couldn't imagine ever moving away from this gorgeous place.
"Don't you just love the snow? It is so amazingly gorgeous," exclaimed Kayla suddenly, a smile on her face that kept on growing. Kayla, like myself, loved the snow with all of her heart. She and I had been friends since we were just starting school and basically grew up surrounded by snow. I think that we've built snowmen every year ever since we were like half a year old.
Shay gave Kayla a look of 'you've gone completely bonkers' before saying, "Well, I don't really love snow, but it is kind of pretty," She paused, wrapping her arms around herself, "I wish it was a little warmer though. I'm like freezing now!"
Kayla and I exchanged knowing looks because we knew that Shay had lived in the sunny land of California most of her life and had only joined us three years ago. The first day that she came to our school, she told us all about a mysterious land where it was always sunny and warm. In fact, her uniqueness was what first motivated us to become friends with her. Few people from warm places void of snow go to our town and so, when she first stood in front of the classroom-introducing herself as a person coming from a far off land called California-she fascinated us.
"It's not that cold!" Kayla and I exclaimed at the same time, grinning. We've had this argument about weather before and whether it was cold or not so many times that I've lost count. I'm pretty sure that Kayla and I mastered repeating the same phrase at the same time.
"Yes, it is! My teeth are chattering uncontrollably and I feel like I'm in a blizzard that should only take place in stories and movies. Wait a second... " Shay suddenly stopped talking, looking at us in horror. I almost became a living snowman when I tripped over her feet, which had mysteriously stopped moving, and was only saved from embarrassing myself by grabbing on Kayla's shoulder-which almost making her fall.
Raising her eyebrow in question, Kayla asked, "What? Why are you like, you know, panicking?" We watched as our friend looking from side to side, clearly panicking over something.
"Is this a blizzard?" She asked, a terrifying look on her face. Opening my mouth to respond, she continued, "I don't want to die! I still want to enjoy my Christmas freedom!" Stifling my mouth with my hands, I bit the inside of my cheek to keep myself from giggling at her almost comical expression. Glancing around me, I saw no warning sign of a blizzard. There were even birds sitting on the tree branches for crying out loud! Turning my gaze back onto my friend, I looked for any signs that she was joking, but unfortunately, saw none. Though, I can't say that I was surprised. Patting her shoulder, I said reassuringly, "Nope, no blizzard. No worries!"
None of my tactics worked on Shay, as she continued to panic, "Are you sure? I'm not convinced at all because it seriously looks like a blizzard. We've never had snow this big in California."
Crossing her arms, Kayla spoke, "First of all, you don't even have snow in California so you wouldn't know whether or not we were having a blizzard." Looking around, Kayla sighed dramatically, "Unfortunately for us, it is a blizzard though..." Shay's eyes widened in panic as she started to mumble to herself what we had to do, causing Kayla and I to look at each other briefly before bursting out loud with laugher. Wiping the tear that had built up in the corner of my eye, I took a deep breath to stop myself from laughing again.
Turning to my spooked friend, I explained, "Kayla was only messing with you, Shay. There's no blizzard here. Gosh, you're so easy to mess with!" The worried look on Shay's face quickly disappeared only to be replaced by one of her dazzling smiles. The three of us kept walking in the snow, enjoying our time together. Eventually, we got to the place where I had to part ways with both Kayla and Shay.
Shay literally skipped to me before giving me a hug that almost cracked my bones, saying, "I really have to fly like a bird home now to escape from this scary blizzard, but we're definitely going to keep in contact during the break!"
Not being able to respond from her crushing hug, I coughed out, "can't... breathe!" Shay, who quickly let go of me, gave me a sheepish smile. I loved her, but was seriously terrified of her hugs. Next, Kayla approached me and gave me a non-life-threatening hug before saying, "Check your emails when you get home because I'm going to spam you."
Nodding, I bid my farewells with the girls before I made my way down the opposite direction, fresh footprints covering the untouched snow. Looking up at the sky, I felt the snowflakes landing onto my face gently causing me to fall in love with snow all over again.
I was feeling as if nothing in the world could ever make me unhappy ever again.
Little did I know that soon, in a blink of my eye, my life would change forever.
